Mandsaur is well known for opium cultivation, and one unique traditional dish from this region is a vegetable made from green opium leaves. This dish is traditionally prepared in villages and the leaves are used in very small, controlled quantities. It has a distinct, slightly bitter taste that is balanced with spices. Once a part of local culinary heritage, this dish is now rarely prepared and seen only in select rural households.
