Hinglajgarh Fort
Hinglajgarh Fort is located in Bhanpura Block of Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh, in the village of Nawali. The fort has a rich historical significance and was under the rule of various dynasties, including the Mauryas, Paramaras, Hadas, and Chandravats. In the 18th century, Rani Ahilyabai Holkar renovated the fort and restored temples dedicated to Hinglaj Mata, Shiva, Ram, and Hanuman. The fort has four main gates (Patanpol, Surajpol, Katrabol, and Mandleshwaripol) and a water reservoir called Surajkund nearby.
The fort is also home to important structures like the Rani Mahal, Kachahri, and Fateh Burj. It is renowned for its ancient sculptures, including statues of Nandi and Uma-Maheshwar, some of which have been exhibited in France and Washington. The fort is located amidst the dense forests of Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, making it a unique historical and cultural site.
